Falling camera lens punches hole in roof (Yahoo! News)

California homeowner keeping an eye on the sky

You know how sometimes you're getting ready to go somewhere and you put your travel mug on the hood of the car? and then drive off? One Petaluma, CA, homeowner is wondering whether someone did that with a large?camera lens, except instead of it falling off on the freeway, the 2 lb piece of equipment fell through her roof causing thousands of dollars in damage.

A neighbor who came to investigate the loud noise noticed the mangled 9-inch long?Canon 24-105mm lens lying on Debbie Payne's driveway beneath a gaping hole near the edge of her roof. The Petaluma police are trying to track down the owner of the camera lens through its serial number, and are asking questions at the Petaluma Airport and the FAA to see if it could have fallen from a plane.

Payne is hoping to recoup her $1,000 insurance deductible, though she is grateful that the lens landed where it did, and not at the elementary school 200 feet away where it could have killed someone.
